'Supernatural' Returns With a Bang

CW - Supernatural - Season Premiere

The hit CW show premiered its 9th season last Tuesday, Oct 8th. If you aren't caught up, beware this post contains spoilers. The premiere saw the return of many popular characters, including the deceased, but much loved Bobby Singer, played by actor Jim Beaver, and one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, Death. The 9th season of Supernatural shows the same dark-edged tone of the previous seasons, and the same hint of subtle humor. Fans were delighted to see the return of the beloved three main characters, Sam, Dean, and Castiel, played by actors Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins. The famed king of hell, Crowley, also makes a small appearance. A few new characters were also introduced, including an angel named Ezekiel, who lends his assistance to the Winchester brothers, as Dean faces the possibility of losing Sam to Death. However, in true Winchester fashion, they find a way to 'cheat Death,' at least for the moment, though the fate of Sam remains unsure for the moment. Sam and Dean Winchester - Supernatural - CW As usual, the acting in the show is phenomenal, as is the continuity. The writing keeps the characters true to themselves and expertly masters the skill of somehow making the absurd situations in the show seem not only in the realm of possibility, but completely believable. The special effects are also uncanny. A car wreck, a minor earthquake, and the typical carnage are all portrayed in a realistic fashion. Supernatual ended its premiere episode in true Supernatural fashion—with confusion, turmoil, and numerous questions unanswered. With all the angels from heaven seeking out Castiel, and with Sam and Ezekiel trapped in a body-switch, the season has a lot of leads to follow, and it will be exciting to see what the Winchesters get themselves mixed up with next. After a gripping premiere from an excellent show, I for one am certainly hungry for more. Watch Supernatural Tuesday nights at 8 pm, on the CW. Photos via: Google
