A Day of Craft Beer at the Inaugural 'Rails & Ales' Event

rails and Ales 2014 If you are live anywhere near Metro Transit's recently opened Green Line and love beer, the inaugural Rails & Ales event is one for you. On Saturday, September 13th, this event is set up to give those beer connoisseurs a taste of eight great local craft breweries that are situated within walking distance of the light rail stops. The best part about this event? The eight participating breweries are offering special discounts on food, merchandise, and of course, beer. The day of beer tasting kicks off at one of these three light rail stations: Union Depot, Target Field, or Stadium Village. Once you get signed up at one of these stations, you will get your own Rails & Ales t-shirt, two tokens that are redeemable for two free pints of beer at the participating breweries, and an event "passport," an itinerary of sorts to all the day's festivities. This guide has maps, event information and contests, and also showcases the local bars and restaurants along the tour. After you grab this essential gear, the trip down the light rail and the stops you make is up to you. So grab a few friends and make a day out of enjoying the great craft beer the Twin Cities has to offer and take advantage of the ability to drink without worrying about transportation. If you end up doing the tour, make sure you make a stop to the Fulton Brewery, my own personal favorite brewery from this list -- I highly recommend both the Lonely Blonde and the Sweet Child of Vine beer options -- both are delicious beers beyond words. For more information about the event, check out the GetKnitEvents website. The event runs from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 13th.   Image via: Rails & Ales
