This year, the Animal Humane Society’s Walk for the Animals will take place on Saturday, May 3rd at the Golden Valley location. It will be a fun Sunday afternoon for a good cause, and you and your pet are invited! Dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and maybe even a pot belly pig or two will be spotted on a 2.5 mile trek from the corner of Dahlberg Drive and Meadow Lane (near the Golden Valley Humane Society) to the Gold Chalet in Theodore Wirth Park and back. The Minnesota Roller Girls and representatives from Subaru will lead the way.
After you and your pooch get out and stretch your legs, there will be plenty of fun activities to enjoy back at the humane society. Catch live music by Boogie Wonderland from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, and stop by the Pet Contest on the main stage. The contest will be judged by personalities from Fox 9, My 29, Cities 97, and Kool 108. In addition, food trucks, face painting, games for pets, and an amazing variety of house pets will be there to keep you entertained.
Of course, the walk is more than just a good time; the mission of the Walk for the Animals is to raise money for the many homeless animals that the humane society shelters every year. With five locations throughout the metro area, all of which house several species of animals, the humane society has a big job to do. Every animal admitted to the humane society receives an examination, vaccinations, behavioral treatments, microchipping, and sterilization for cats, dogs, rabbits, and ferrets. Add those services to the cost of feeding the animals and providing a clean living space, and the bill becomes pretty hefty.
That’s why dedicated animal-lovers throughout the Twin Cities have created donation pages and are doing important fundraising work, so check them out and consider making a gift of any size. Your generosity literally puts a roof over heads of homeless animals! So give a little, walk a little, and have a lot of fun at this year’s Walk for the Animals.
