Father's Day With a Bit of Grit

When the kids get out of school and are around all summer, sometimes parents need to get creative on how to keep them busy and get them out of the house. And each year, some families wonder what is the perfect gift to give dad for Father's Day. Well, how about checking out the way life was back in the 19th century agricultural industry? Well doesn't that sound like fun? Ok, maybe not at first blush, but this event sounds like a blast for those families who like to be outside and working with their hands. This event, hosted by the Kelley Farm staff, would be a great day for dad and kids who need to stay busy. Attendees will get a chance to do 19th century farm chores like building fences, feed boxes, raking hay and caring for livestock. To illuminate the contrast between 19th century farming and modern day farming, those in attendance will then get to knock out some modern farm chores. No doubt the differences will be drastic. It will be a lesson in hard work and human ingenuity in agriculture! After the event the Kelley Farm kitchen will be serving sweets, a perfect cap to a day of hard work and learning. The event does cost a few bucks (varying on age) -- but if a father and son attend together, dad can participate for free. The event is running Father's Day weekend, June 17 and 18, from 10 am to 5 pm both days.
