On Saturday, March 8, 2014, an exciting new tradition will start in the St. Paul running world: the
Inaugural Hockey Hair Run! Kicking off at 9 am on Harriet Island, this 5K race is not only a chance to get out and enjoy the great outdoors, but also to show off your flowing locks – helmets optional, though participants will receive a Minnesota-made stocking cap.
Often considered the greatest hockey player ever, Wayne Gretzky sported great hockey hair during many games of his 20 seasons in the NHL. You’ll have to be at the run this Saturday to see whose style best competes with “The Great One.”

Though the Hockey Hair Run isn’t timed, a professional clock will be onsite for those wishing to track their time. Since they plan to play “Eye of the Tiger” repeatedly during the race, feel free to bring your MP3 player with your own choice of tunes to inspire your mojo.
The morning of the run, there will be a jersey drive for
Defending the Blue Line. All gently used jerseys and hockey gear can be donated to help children of military families in need of equipment, ensuring they can safely participate on the ice.
In addition to providing equipment, access to summer hockey camps, and grants for association fees, Defending the Blue Line also provides the opportunity for military families to attend a variety of collegiate, minor league, and National Hockey League games.
Lace up your shoes, Twin Cities, and help welcome the Hockey Hair Run!
