Full Moon on Friday the 13th (That's Today!)

full moon Today is Friday the 13th. And tonight there will be a full moon. Are you superstitious? Whether you are very superstitious, a "little stitious" like Michael Scott, or not stitious at all, tonight's Friday the 13th full moon is a rare occasion. The last such occurrence took place back in 2000 and the next will not occur until 2049. Here's a rundown from ReseachManiacs.com of all of the full moons that will take place between 1900 and 2100: fullmoons It's been quite a stretch for those interested in rare phenomena filling the night sky. We just had the Tax Day "Blood Moon" on April 15th — it was the first in a tetrad of eclipses to take place over the next 18 months. The other three will be on October 8, 2014, April 4, 2015, and September 28, 2015. So, while there are plenty of Blood Moons coming up in the near future, it'll be 35 years before the next Friday the 13th full moon — you better get out there and enjoy it.

Here are my recommendations for how to spend this lunar occasion coinciding with the unluckiest day on the calendar, depending on how superstitious you happen to be: Very Superstitious — Call in sick, stay home and lock your doors. A Little Stitious — Half day, be cautious and avoid black cats. Not Stitious at all — Prank people who are very superstitious. Use black cats. (Careful: Cats bites are nasty.)   Photos via: LoggaWiggler
