Local Amateur Comedians Perform Free on Mondays at 'Acme Comedy Company'

Acmeco Last week I had the pleasure of attending a show at the Acme Comedy Company. It's located in downtown Minneapolis on First Street, but just far enough on the outskirts to escape the hustle and bustle of downtown. But if you're looking for a quiet time then look somewhere else. The show will be filled with a constant flow of laughter from the audience matched with high spirited energy. Monday night shows are always free. Although the doors open at 7:30 pm, I was sure to get there a little over 30 minutes early to be sure to save a spot in line. The club quickly filled up before the show and I wouldn't be surprised if some people were turned away from lack of space. While waiting to get into the club I was able to grab a bite and drink from Sticks, the restaurant hosting the comedy. Their menu was not very impressive. Everyone in my group commented on the vanilla menu and lack of options for good beer.

Regardless of the menu, the show was fantastic. The free show is amateur night, so I heard over ten locals do short skits for up to 15 minutes. Of course there were a few obvious beginners who stumbled, but I was impressed by most of the local comedians' ability to deliver professional quality routines. After attending a free show, I would definitely go back to a ticketed show which features nationally known headliners who feature for one week. Tickets cost $15 or $30 with dinner on Tuesdays through Saturdays.   Photos via: Acme Comedy Company
