Minneapolis 'Movies in the Parks' 2014

minneapolis music and movies in the park - 2014

With June 2014 just around the corner, Minneapolis has released their annual schedule of Movies in the Parks. Starting Saturday, June 7, movies will be featured at various parks around Minneapolis everyday consecutively until Saturday, August 23rd. That's 11 weeks of films! There will be over 77 films for you to check out and join in on communal fun. Movie nights are scattered around Minneapolis with near 30 locations. The website lists dates, places, and movies to be shown for each night. So you can base it off of your favorite movie or a park near you! Films start just 15 minutes after sunset. The website also includes tentative times for sunset so you can plan accordingly. Don't forget your blankets, pillows, and chairs!

It looks like all films this year are family-friendly, the one exception being Hitchcock's Psycho. Other than that we have cult classics such as Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Goonies, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and my favorite The Princess Bride. There are family flicks like Toy Story, The Sandlot, and Brave. Brand new films are also available such as Gravity, Despicable Me 2, and Frozen. There are heart-warming movies like Invictus, The Blind Side, and Pursuit of Happyness, and also smaller, independent films made in Minnesota. One last important thing to mention: it's entirely free! These programs are presented to make an engaging community experience -- so come along and invite your neighbors! Get there early for good seats and have the chance for kids to swing at the playground or you chat with other attendees. The hosts of Movies in the Park also are the hosts of Music in the Parks, which will put on over 250 concerts this summer.
