Minnesota's 'Northern Gentleman' Gets a Nod for Grammy

Award season is here and what makes them more exciting is when one of Minnesota’s own is up for multiple Grammy’s. Allan Kingdom (real name Allan Kyariga), 21, isn’t the first from Minnesota who has been up for a music nomination and he certainly won’t be the last. For those who don’t know, Kingdom is an up and coming rap artist who is also connected to the Electronic R&B group Stand4rd. His other aliases he goes by are “Peanut Butter Prince” and “The Northern Gentleman.” He gained attention from Plain Pat, which has worked with musicians such as Alicia Keys, Kid Cudi, and Kanye West. He made his appearance on West’s recent single, “All Day” which initially got him the nod for a nomination. His collaboration with West has already sent him around the globe performing the recent hit such as the 2015 Brit Awards. Besides his recent success with West, Kingdom also has multiple songs of his own such as “Wavey” featuring his band mate Spooky Black. To measure his success, Kingdom’s top five songs all have more than 50,000 listens on the music app Spotify.

Kingdom was born in Canada but eventually ended up moving to Wisconsin and then to St. Paul, MN with his family. He went to Woodbury High School and Creative Arts High School. He then went on to the Minneapolis Institute of Recording and Production. Kingdom wrote, produced and recorded his first single, “Talk to Strangers” that he would later perform at Soundset, one of Twin Cities’ popular music festivals. Other notable attributes is being named “Top 25 Rappers to Watch in 2014 and being featured on Vita’s cover in the Twin Cities.
