The Minnesota Gophers fought valiantly, but fell to the #11 ranked Michigan State Spartans 14-3 today. The Spartans have a formidable defense and held the Gophers to only one score. Michigan State is without a doubt one of the the best teams in the Big Ten -- they finished their Big Ten schedule undefeated, and the season 11-1.
It's always difficult to win in East Lansing, home of the Spartans, but the Gophers held their own. They prevented their adversary from blowing the game open, giving themselves a chance to fight back the entire game.

As an avid softball player, each year when the weather turns cold, a bit of me dies inside until the spring comes back around. In the winter, the days become shorter, the sun hides for days at a time, and the landscape becomes a tundra with almost no life to speak of -- and since snow covers the ground, there is no more softball for all those Minnesota ball players. Sure there is plenty else to do in the winter, but since I'm not really an outdoorsmen (fishing, hunting, camping), my options are a bit limited -- playing poker and bowling will just...

A Minnesota-made film titled
My Senior Year will hit the Mall of America Theaters tomorrow and have a brief theatrical run through Saturday December 7th. Local filmmaker Joe Carlini has been working hard on his first feature film since the summer of 2012, a project he had the idea for in high school. Now his hard work has come to fruition with a brief showcase at the Mall of America.
The majority of the project was filmed in the halls of Woodbury High School and in St. Paul -- Carlini attended Woodbury High School in his...!--more-->

Protestors flocked the streets on Friday, not to participate in American consumerism, but to protest the low wages of retail employees and janitors. The protestors marched down University Avenue in St. Paul and made their way to the Wal-Mart on Snelling Avenue where 26 of those protestors were arrested in conjunction with their disruption of traffic by sitting in the middle of the street.
This protest was one of hundreds around the country on Friday -- but the St. Paul protest was organized by Take Action Minnesota and the Service...!--more-->

The iconic Coca-Cola polar bears will not be around very much this holiday season -- the world famous soft drink manufacturer is pulling most of their holiday ads to focus the money on a much more important cause. Coke will be donating said advertising money to help combat the
devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines (5,000+ dead, 1,600+ still missing, $5.8 billion in damage). This has to be one of the best moves in the history...

These type of "social injustice" viral stories are all over the Internet -- of course, not all of these stories should be taken as hard truth. This latest is an example of just that. Recently a lesbian waitress in New Jersey posted a picture of a bill for a table she served in which she received no tip. The tab also had a note stating she wasn't receiving a tip because the diners didn't agree with her gay lifestyle. Of course, a story like this instantly went viral, gaining national media attention and thousands of shares on social media. But now, it appears as if...

Well I can guarantee no one predicted a 26-26 Vikings/Packers tie on Sunday. Ties happen so rarely in the NFL, who would have thought one of the oldest rivalries in the league would come up so vanilla. As the saying goes, tying is like, "Kissing your sister." Both teams shot themselves in the foot enough on Sunday to justify not winning the game -- so I guess you could say neither team deserved to win.
Despite a huge game from Adrian Peterson, 146 rushing yards on 32 carries, both season highs, the Vikings found plenty of ways to lose this game....!--more-->

Block E in Minneapolis is supposed to be the central hub for everything happening in the big city -- however, over the past few years the largely vacant complex has felt more like a decaying district than a thriving one. Many businesses, bars, and restaurants have come and gone in recent memory. In an effort to revitalize the area, the owners of the complex on 600 Hennepin Avenue are working to overhaul the building, including plans for new training facilities for the Minnesota Timberwolves and the reigning WNBA Champion Lynx.
Camelot LLC owns the property...!--more-->

I’m sticking to my guns on this one. I have a theory, see -- and the theory goes: the Bears always win when Josh McCown is their starting quarterback. For instance, in the two games he has started this season, the Bears have compiled a 2-0 record. Undefeated! Furthermore, in the last six calendar weeks, the Bears have only lost twice...!--more-->

A Minneapolis man, Leroy Longs Jr., 34, faces a federal charge for allegedly operating an underground (obviously) dog fighting ring at eight different metro locations. A mountain of evidence is stacked against Longs, starting with the 13 adult pit pulls and five puppies (one female was also pregnant) that were seized from eight Twin Cities locations. Longs used the many rented properties to spread out his wealth of "fighters" -- unknowingly, he gave the authorities a road map to all of them after a court order allowed for a police GPS tracker to be placed on his vehicle....
