Movie Review - 'Tomb Raider' Can't Escape the Curse of Its Own Bad Writing

After Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, pulling off the archaeological action hero is no easy feat. Few have come close to achieving its greatness. Perhaps the only move that comes to mind that tried to reach the sun and almost touched it is The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser. That’s probably why the genre has remained mostly untouched for the last few decades. The old Tomb Raider movies starring Angelina Jolie are a total joke, more interested in selling video games and sex appeal than an actual good movie. ...

2018 Minnesota Twins Season Preview

Last season, the Minnesota Twins had a major turnaround following the worst season in Twins history in 2016. They finished last season with a record of 85-77 and made it to the American League Wild Card game in which they were defeated by the New York Yankees. This year’s team is somewhat different from last season with several players leaving due to free agency or retirement. Some of the key departures from last year’s team include: backup catcher Chris Gimenez, starting pitchers Hector Santiago and Bartolo Colon and reliever Matt Belisle. Also, reliever Glen Perkins retired. In the offseason, the Twins upgraded their bullpen....

New Ice Cream Shop Opens in Northeast Minneapolis

With winter on its way out -- cue Minnesota snowfall -- I SAID, with winter on its way out, and spring actually meandering its way to the Minnesota landscape, it's time to start thinking about warm summer days and cold, tasty ice cream treats. Just in time for said summer days is Minnesota Nice Cream, an inventive ice cream shop that is unlike the Dairy Queens of the world. Minnesota Nice Cream began as a food truck beloved by Twin Cities residents for the interesting ice cream concoctions that came out of the mind of founder Katie Romanski. Now the ice cream shop has established roots in the Northeast Minneapolis...

Movie Review - ‘A Wrinkle In Time’ Gets Lost in Translation and That’s Why It’s Awful

“The book is always better” is a cliched refrain many bookworms love to spout any time there’s a movie adaptation of their beloved book. Sometimes this cliche is very wrong. The Lord of the Rings films by Peter Jackson, for instance, excels at capturing the heart and soul of the novels while simultaneously being its own thing. But, The Lord of the Rings is largely an external story, focusing on action and plot with little internalization. A Wrinkle In Time is the inverse. Its plotting is basic but the beauty of the book is the heavy internalization. Because...
