I have lived in Minnesota for nearly my entire life, almost 22 years now, and I wouldn't change much about it other than our luck in sports (but, hey! those Twins), the humidity and mosquitoes. All the mosquitoes...

As unbelievable as it sounds, our hometown ball club has proven the so-called experts wrong thus far in the 2015 season.
Many of those experts believe the Twins are going to have another bad season and finish in last place in the American League Central Division. And many of those experts believe this was the most competitive division in baseball given the fact that all five teams made various moves to improve their clubs this past offseason.
And now, here we are at the end of May, 46 games into the season and the Twins and Kansas City Royals are tied for first place with a record...!--more-->

Soundset's perennial success might come as a surprise to the casual onlooker, but anyone digging deeper knows the stalwart power of what it means to those who keep attending. Minnesota would seem like an odd place for one of the world's top hip-hop festivals, yet
Rhymesayers (our local label) has found the terrain quite fertile. Soundset year upon year keeps springing forth a complete ecosystem of hip-hop that's seemingly unhindered...

Sun Country Airlines, the hometown airline of Minneapolis-St. Paul, serves 37 destinations in the U.S., Mexico and Caribbean. Negotiations with their pilots look eerily similar to the last U.S. airline strike.
Ten years ago this August, news outlets were reporting that striking mechanics were slashing tires, blocking busses and harassing employee vehicles. I was the enemy. I was a Northwest Airlines manager reporting to work during one of the last major airline strikes in the U.S. Airline mechanics were lined up along Airline Way in front of Northwest Building...!--more-->
So I know as a critic you’re not supposed to root against a movie, but for the first half hour of the new Poltergeist remake I was worried. You see, I’m not the world’s biggest Poltergeist fan. I’m talking about the original, nigh-unassailable classic from every family’s favorite filmmaker Steven Spielberg and every family’s least-favorite filmmaker (at least at the time), Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s Tobe Hooper. I mean it’s okay. I’ve had friends shake their heads in shame as I try arguing that horror can simply be subjective, and the film just doesn’t get under my skin. I recognize the charm in the relatable family...

The NBA held its draft lottery Tuesday night and the Minnesota Timberwolves came away with the top pick of the 2015 draft. This marks the first time in franchise history that the team would be making the first selection in the NBA Draft. The pick comes in another deep draft class, which should bring in another good player to pair with the last two first-overall picks and other lottery selections in the past few drafts.
The Wolves "won" the best chance (25%) of winning the first selection of the draft after a 16-66 record this past season (that's a lot of losing). It has been

On January 21st, Gustavus Adolphus Coach Steve Wilkinson passed away peacefully at home, leaving behind a trail of historic milestones as the winningest tennis coach of all time. We track his innovative spiritual philosophy and what will remain of his tennis legacy.
A Rocky Beginning
When I arrived as a wide-eyed freshman at Gustavus Adolphus College, Tennis Coach Steve Wilkinson (“Wilk”) had just cleared out his office. His young daughter Stephanie carried his boxes as Wilk tried to explain the deeply disappointing news that he had not received tenure and a new professor was taking his office. He had bought a house in small town St. Peter, moved with his wife...

On Saturday, May 23, The Navigator, one of silent comedian Buster Keaton’s best films, is screening at the Pioneers and Soldiers Memorial Cemetery. The following article addresses Keaton's films as a whole and why they play even better today than they did 90 years ago.
In college I hosted a weekly movie night. It began humbly, on a small analog TV in my dorm where I would screen personal favorites, classics, and obscurities with no specific rhyme or reason to the selections. Over the next few years, thanks in part to my persistence but thanks even more to the fact that I had nothing better to do, our numbers began to increase. I could only...

He’s probed the far reaches of space. He’s delved into the world of dreams. He’s resurrected superheroes from death at the hands of comedians and rubber nipples. He’s overcome debilitating memory and sleep disorders. He’s killed more wives than Henry VIII. He’s inspired a fanbase so rabid they single-handedly got the review comments feature disabled on Rotten Tomatoes. He’s by far the most well-known filmmaker in the world, and earlier this month he ...

Starting a business isn’t easy, especially if you’re in an environment that isn’t friendly towards entrepreneurs. If it’s harder for you to start a business in a city, then it will be harder to create jobs to employ workers.
