NASA Reveals Amazing Satellite Photo of Mostly Frozen Great Lakes

You might be thinking, the Great Lakes frozen, it's winter -- duh. But this NASA photo from space shows that 88% of the Great Lakes are covered in ice, a percentage not seen since 1994 according to the NASA Earth Observatory. Since 1973, the chain of lakes usually averages 50% ice coverage. It's crazy to see the lakes so completely covered in ice, especially in the deepest parts of the bodies of water. Lake Eerie looks like it is 100% frozen -- it's so tough to see, below is an image with the lakes labeled. NASA experts say the combination of unusually low temperatures, wind, and snow are to blame for the large extent of ice.
