Supermoon. This Saturday, the full moon will look larger than life.
While we may like to think this supermoon is caused by some romantic lassoing it down for his girl like George Bailey in
It's a Wonderful Life, that is not the case. The real reason is the moon's elliptical orbit. On Saturday, the moon will not only be full but on the part of its orbit closest to us on Earth. In addition to appearing bigger, the moon will shine brighter too.
If you fail to take advantage of the romance of the supermoon on Saturday, don't worry. It'll make two more appearances this summer on August 10 and September 9.
