In 1950, he conceived the standard benchmark test for an Artificial Intelligence's ability to imitate a human intelligence. According to the good folks at Wikipedia:
"The Turing test is a test of a machine's (i.e. computer program's) ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human."
