The Gophers Men's Basketball team's Big Ten Tournament was over last week after a 79-73 loss to Ohio State (23-9) in the second game of the tournament for Minnesota.
The Gophers (18-15) headed into the Tournament as one of the bottom four seeds of the 14-team conference, which forced them into a play-in game against Rutgers (10-22) on Wednesday in Chicago. The Gophers took the game 80-68 despite zero points from star guard Andre Hollins. The team needed to win five games in five days to make it to the NCAA Tournament via automatic bid.

The Minnesota Gophers men's basketball team played its first home game of the Big Ten Conference schedule Tuesday in its new blackout uniforms, but came up short in an overtime thriller.
Minnesota hosted the 22nd-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes at Williams Arena and took the opponent to the limit before succumbing in the extra period. In overtime, the Gophers couldn't put it away and Buckeyes Marc Loving hit a jumper with 5.6 seconds left to take the lead. As the fans left the building, a hushed murmur of voices was all to be heard.

For the third straight year, the University of Minnesota will be headed to a bowl game. The Gophers will take on the Missouri Tigers January 1 in the Citrus Bowl held in Orlando, Florida.
"I'm excited for our players -- they've worked so hard," Coach Jerry Kill said. "I'm excited for our university and for our fans and state. I think it's a great thing for all of us."
The bowl game bid was announced Sunday. The Tigers are 10-3 but coming off of a loss to Alabama in the SEC championship game.

After 12 years as the Gopher Women's Basketball Head Coach, Pam Borton was fired this past Friday.
The announcement reportedly
came the day after the Gophers' 70 - 62 NIT loss to the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State University last Thursday.
Borton, 48, finished her tenure with an overall record of (236 - 152) -- however, her greatest success with the Gophers occurred in her first few years with the program.

I'm not a college football fan at all -- I could not care less about the Gophers football team, even despite attending the University of Minnesota four years. Part of my distaste for the team has to do with how much I dislike college football in general -- the other part comes from how much of a joke the program has been for years.
