Do you have safety concerns while crossing the light-rail tracks when attending a Minnesota Vikings game at the new stadium come 2016? An $8.7 million proposal from Metro Transit and the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority to build a pedestrian bridge would make it safer for Vikings fans.
The pedestrian bridge would go from the stadium to the Downtown East plaza, crossing over the light-rail tracks on Chicago Avenue S.
“Even with the Metrodome, people crossing the tracks has been a concern,” Michele Kelm-Helgen, chairwoman of the Sports Facilities Authority said in an article on the ...
The Vikings’ future venue, for now known only as the New Minnesota Stadium, is making progress while the Vikings are playing their first games in TCF Bank Stadium.
The steel structure of the 2018 Super Bowl host-venue
has just started to make progress, spanning the entirety of the stadium’s footprint from east to west.
With the world’s third largest crane on site to help, 11.6% of construction on the 1.75 million square foot complex is complete, according to the team.
“It’s amazing when you look at the site,...
Mankato is nearing half a century of hosting the Minnesota Vikings Training Camp (next year will be the 50th), but the legendary purple invasion will never get old. Each year the horned masses gather where the Minnesota River turns north to find a blank slate... and we're thankful for it. All of the most successful seasons for our beloved Vikings have ended with losses. The coming year always has the potential to be "the one," the greatest, the most memorable ever.
In this statewide pilgrimage, in homage of our nation's most successful sport, any lingering...!--more-->
On Tuesday NFL owners braved the idea that a Super Bowl could be held in Minnesota. Although the game would be held in the new, indoor

A version of the plaza, with light-rail, facing toward the stadium[/caption]
The design for the new Viking's stadium calls for a large open plaza. It will include a transit station for the light-rail, a wonderfully glassy entrance to the venue itself and a not so glassy view of the (also newly constructed) Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center (which will be directly across from the doors). Yet a large question mark remains: what will this plaza be called?
The proposed "Downtown East Plaza" isn't very catchy and...!--more-->
The new construction of the Vikings stadium is kicking into high gear
-- according to Mortenson, the construction site has swelled to almost 300 workers per day (that number will increase significantly over the summer months). But as with many projects of this magnitude, oftentimes the estimated cost and final cost are different. The Vikings have agreed to kick in $1.2 million more towards the new stadium to ensure the new facility has all the iconic designs and fan amenities initially drafted. These additional funds are...
Can you believe that just a couple months ago the entirety of the Metrodome stood on the very site pictured above? Since the Vikings final home game, a relatively uneventful win against the Detroit Lions, the dome has since been deflated, the structure blown up and taken down, and now on the vacant landscape new construction begins.
Mortenson Construction and their team of workers have already begun to pour some of the foundations for the new Vikings structure -- there is plenty of commotion...!--more-->
