
The sold out show filled First Avenue with hundreds of fans eager to celebrate 89.3 The Current’s 12th birthday on Friday evening.
After the stress of a long and tumultuous week, the excitement in the crowd was palpable and it was easy to see why. The national and local lineup of bands and musicians were some of the station’s favorites including
Jay Smart,
Black Market Brass,
Stand of Oaks,
Joseph, and
jeremy messersmith (At the start of the new year, he
requested his name be lowercase).

Forty years ago, the radio variety show
A Prairie Home Companion and host Garrison Keillor held the first show at Macalester College. In total, twelve people attended. But apparently, those twelve managed to spread the word. Today, the show is broadcast out of The Fitzgerald and  is heard by 4 million people on more than 600 different public radio stations.
Over the years, the show has moved to New York City and back, has been broadcast from all around the world and been host to a variety of performers.
