Recently Minnesotans have been lucky enough to check out the atmospheric phenomenon known as sun dogs. The bright halo surrounding the sun has to do with light refracting off ice crystals -- the gorgeous sight is one of the few bright spots of the freezing cold Minnesota landscape. The best time to see sun dogs is sunrise and sunset.
The picture you are looking at is not some weird lens effect or some reflection off a window. Sun dogs can be seen with the naked eye, and it's quite a sight to behold. This photo was taken just outside our Eagan office.
