Volunteers Will Finish Home Remodel for Army Veteran Diagnosed With Cancer

While cancer is always an awful thing, always, oftentimes good things can come from these dire circumstances. This is an example of one of those times. Jerry Webbe was in the process of renovating his St. Paul residence with his family when he was diagnosed with stage four throat cancer. Awful news for any family, especially nearing the holidays. Despite the home remodel already underway, Jerry and his family had pause the renovation to focus their energy and efforts on fighting the cancer. Sometimes tragedy brings out the best from a community. The Home Depot Foundation and The Mission Continues stepped in after hearing Webbe's story -- they two volunteer groups have enlisted 50+ Good Samaritans to help finish the remodel this Saturday so the family can have a finished space to celebrate Thanksgiving this Thursday. Brian Carpenter, project supervisor and captain of Team Home Depot, the volunteer force for the hardware store, said, "We found out about his story and wanted to help out." Webbe is a US Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War -- the project is part of the yearly Celebration of Service Campaign put on by Home Depot which helps improve the homes of United States veterans and their families.
